The report first reviewed the overall situation of the shipping market, with the shipping index reaching a new high in 2021 and falling back in 2022. In 2022, the container market was weak in the first quarter and became active in the second quarter. Asia is the most active market in the world.

Then the container throughput of several major markets in the world was analyzed in detail. North America was the only region that maintained growth in the first quarter, and there will still be steady growth in the future; container throughput in Europe has declined in most regions due to the energy crisis and inflation; the throughput of the Asian market has exceeded 400 million teu, and China has contributed the world's 1/3 containers, which will maintain a steady growth in the future; the throughput of the Middle East and South Africa has increased slightly, while Australia has declined slightly. African throughput was not as good as last year, South Africa was stable and other regions were declining, and Latin America as a whole was stable.

After that, Mr. Zhao analyzed market situation from the perspective of supply and demand in east-west market, as well as in north-south market. Supply in the east-west market has exceeded demand since 2021, while it has been constantly glutted in the north-south market. In the future, it is normal that supply exceeds demand. There is little change in eastward freight, and there is still some room for growth in westward freight.

Finally, the report briefly shared the new ships, head collection companies and container freight etc. In terms of new capacity, 2023 and 2024 are the period of intensive delivery of ships, after which it will gradually decline. The price of new shipbuilding continues to rise, and the increase in the cost of large ships is even more obvious. Among the collection and transportation companies, Maersk currently ranks first in capacity. With the launch of new orders, Mediterranean MSC will surpass Maersk and COSCO to become the largest transportation company. The oversupply of containers will become the norm after 2022, and accordingly, container costs will decline greatly after 2022.
